How can my business get more leads?

Short answer: a lead is the end of a short path. Someone finds you, believes you're real, finds it easy to ask, hears back quickly, and tells somebody else. If a step is missing, leads leak out there.

Here's the path, and what I'd do at each step for a local service business.

Five steps from search to a lead: be found, look real, make it easy, answer fast and earn the next one

1. Be found

For local work, being found means two places. One is the map: your Google Business Profile, your categories and your reviews. The other is your website, which needs a page for each job you do. Someone searching for a furnace repair or a ceramic coating wants that answer, and one page that says we do everything doesn't match their search.

I wrote more on how I think about this in the Rockford web design page, and the same idea applies to any trade.

2. Look real

People decide in a few seconds. Real photos, your service area written out, a phone number that works, and reviews all do the same thing. They tell a stranger you're a person who'll show up. Ask for reviews while the customer is still happy, with a link or QR code, not later.

3. Make it easy

A form that asks for six things loses people. A form that lets someone send a photo of the problem, the roof or the damage and a phone number is easy, and it gives you something to quote from. I build a photo quote form into every site.

4. Answer fast

The first business to respond often gets the job. Lead alerts go to your email in seconds, and there's a lead inbox on your phone so nothing sits. If you can't answer a call, a missed-call text or AI answering can pick it up, and both are part of the Plus plan.

5. Earn the next one

A finished job is the cheapest time to ask for a review. That feeds step 1 and step 2 for the next customer. The cycle is the whole game.

Does AI search matter for leads?

More and more people ask ChatGPT or Gemini who to call. In my September 2026 check, ChatGPT named R's Mobile Mechanics first for a Rockford mobile mechanic and quoted his diagnostic fee and warranty back. Clear, specific pages are what AI tools quote. I explain that in AI search for local businesses.

Start with the weakest step

Pick the step you're worst at and fix that one. If you don't know which it is, I'll look at your Google profile and your site and tell you. You can ask for a demo at the free demo page, or see how many calls you could be missing.
