Get named when Rockford asks ChatGPT who to call
More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for a plumber, a mechanic or a cleaner instead of scrolling Google. The answer is two or three names, not ten links. I find out whether yours is one of them, and if it isn't, I fix the reason.
What AI search visibility is
You will see it called AI SEO, generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO). It is all the same question: when someone asks an AI assistant for a business like yours, does it say your name?
The assistants don't invent the list. They pull from your Google Business Profile, your reviews, the listings that repeat your name, address and phone, and the pages on your own site. If those are thin, missing or disagree with each other, you get left out.
What I found checking Rockford
In September 2026 I asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity who they recommend across seven local trades, then checked every business that came up. 11 of 39 Rockford businesses already at the top of Google were named by none of them.

What it looks like when it works
R's Mobile Mechanics is a mobile mechanic I built a site for. Asked for the best mobile mechanic in Rockford, three of the four assistants named him, and ChatGPT put him first. It gave its reasons: the one-year parts warranty, the diagnostic fee terms and same-day availability. Those are three plain sentences from his site, quoted back at the customer.
Happy Tails Pet Care has no Google listing, and Gemini and Perplexity still name her. A caller to Suite 5 Cleaning said she found them through ChatGPT. These are checked results from my own clients, not a promise for yours.
What I actually fix
- Your Google Business Profile: categories, services, service area, photos and reviews, since a lot of the assistants lean on the same business data
- Plain facts on your site that a machine can quote: what you charge, what you cover, which towns you serve, how fast you come
- Matching name, address and phone on the listings the assistants read
- A site the AI crawlers are allowed to read, with the right markup
- A repeat check every month, so you can see which assistants name you and which don't
What I won't promise
No one controls what ChatGPT says, and the answers change from one day to the next. I can't promise you will be named, or named first. What I can do is show you today where you stand, fix the gaps that are measurable, and re-check every month so you see what moved.
