How do I get more calls for my business?

Short answer: more calls come from three things. People have to find you, they have to believe you're real, and calling has to take one tap. Most small businesses lose calls at one of five places, and most of them are fixable.

I run my own numbers on this, so I'll start with what happened to mine.

What changed for me in one week

Two numbers: Google reviews went from 3 to 13 and the map position for web design in Rockford went from number 10 to number 2 between October 5 and October 12, 2026

On October 5, 2026 my Google profile had 3 reviews and sat at number 10 on the map for "web designer Rockford Illinois". The leaders had between 12 and 27 reviews. I asked clients for reviews. A week later I had 13 and I was at number 2.

That's one business and one search, so don't read it as a promise. It does show where the weight is. For local calls, reviews and a full Google profile move the needle more than almost anything on your website.

Five places a call gets lost

Five stages where a phone call gets lost: they can't find you, they don't trust what they see, the site is slow on a phone, calling takes effort, and nobody answers

**1. They can't find you.** Fill out your Google Business Profile completely: categories, services, hours, photos, the towns you serve. Then keep adding reviews. If you want help with that, see Google Business Profile setup.

**2. They don't trust what they see.** Put prices or price ranges where you can. Show real photos of your work. Name the towns you cover. A vague page loses to a specific one.

**3. The site is slow on a phone.** Most local searches happen on a phone, and slow pages get abandoned. I test every site I build on a phone before launch. If you want to know how yours does, run the free check.

**4. Calling takes effort.** Put a tap-to-call button at the top of every page. A phone number that isn't a link makes someone copy, switch apps and paste, and a lot of people won't.

**5. Nobody answers.** If you're under a sink or on a roof, you'll miss calls. The next name on the list picks up. A missed-call text or AI answering fixes that, and both are included in my Plus plan.

What I'd do first

If you only have an hour, fix number 1. Fill out your Google profile and send a review link to your last ten happy customers. A QR code on your truck or a card left after the job works well too, and I include one in every site I build.

Do that, then make the phone number tappable, then look at the rest. You can see how I build for this on the Rockford web design page.

If you want help, tell me about your business and I'll build you a demo of a site that does all of this.
